7-string guitar tuning: string by string
7-string guitar tuning, Standard (low B): B E A D G B E (B1 E2 A2 D3 G3 B3 E4). A seven-string guitar is a six-string with one more string below: B E A D G B E, the B a fourth under the low E at 61.7 Hz. Metal players drop it further to A for drop A; the switch above handles both.
In Brazil the seven-string is a choro and samba instrument, the violão de sete cordas, and its seventh string is traditionally tuned to C, a third below the E, for the bass runs called baixarias; that's the third switch. Whatever the note, the low string needs a heavier gauge than a six-string set has, or it flaps and reads flat.
The notes you tuned go into Brumm as a short melody over a beat.
